A lifelong musician, Guillaume Diamrek – by his stage name – has been making instruments for over 16 years. Although it was the violin, piano and guitar that initially drew him to this passion, the instruments he creates are of a less conventional type. They are mainly koras - instruments from West Africa -, and traditional Baltic instruments known as kanklės, kokles, kantele or kannel, depending on the country. The self-taught luthier also sometimes produces what he describes as hybrid instruments: unique pieces in which he incorporates his own innovations while respecting the traditional foundations.
Both in Switzerland and on his travels to Senegal, Lithuania and elsewhere, Guillaume has had the opportunity to play with musicians from all over the world. Fascinated by the power of music to bring people together, he wishes to promote the riches of a multi-cultural heritage, some of which tends to be forgotten by the modern world. The multi-instrumentalist is happy to share his knowledge with anyone interested, whether a novice or already initiated.
Guillaume Diamrek is currently involved in two musical projects, among others:
- Deux Minutes Infinies, a cross-cultural trio featuring kanklės, kora, percussion and vocals, whose debut album will be released very soon.
